I punctured my heart.
How could I?
How could I?
How could I do such a thing?
I should have let
sleeping dogs lie;
but was it wrong
to be optimistic
and coated in confidence,
ignoring a second thought
of ‘what if’?
…Perhaps!
Here it bleeds fire
that burns a cavity in my soul
throwing my mind in disarray.
and my body
in an uneasy state.
But my brain comes to work
with a certain thought
about the phoenix;
reminding me of how
it must burn to be re-born.
With that as the last piece
to the puzzle,
I emerged from the ashes
of my failed past
knowing I leave nothing behind
as I take the next exit
to a new life.
It’s always a painful emergence from the ashes… but new life brings new hope.. Loved the read and flow of this one.. xPenx

I think it’s pretty cool that we get to have as many “do-overs” as we need. Love this!
Remarkable! burn to be reborn, next exit to a new life — ironies of life can really be good ๐
What an excellent title for such a wonderful poem. I like how you dust off and start your new life at the next exit so well done

Powerful poem my friend. I really enjoyed this poem and there are times in my life that I have felt the same way, as I imagine others have as well. Thank you for sharing.
